AEROPLANES FOR NEW ZEALAND.
(To the Editor.) Sii , ,—I ccc by iJhe papers that the Auckland citizens are giving Sir Joseph Ward a, hearty eeud-off to the Old Land. I think it would be a. good time for the committee to get m promise from him .to arrange about a supply of aeroplanes for the use of the New Zealand defence frfrce, and-in order to show the rest of New Zealand how patriotic Auckland is, we should form a branch of the New Zealand Aerial League. If a good strong league were formed in Auckland, then funds would flow in, and the machines could be built here after the latest models. Seeing the complicated state of affairs in the East, we cannot afford to defer aerial defence any longer. Besides, it would be an ideal class of sport, and the public would patronise it well. Horse racing, cricket, and football are fine sports, but not to be compared with this. Indeed, this sport would be of a most exciting nature, and at the same tome would prove out salvation in time of war. Never in the world's history has there been such an opening for our young men to cover themselves with honour, and never has there been such an opportunity for our wealthy citizens to help along a grand national cause, and, at the same time, give the public such genuine eports. Seeing that aeroplanes can be built for co low as- £ 150, it behoves us to get to work at once and form a strong league, and let Auckland have the honour of being the first in the field to put down a handsome sum to start thds grand national movement.—l am, etc., iMttt WILL DALTON.
