HEALTH HINTS.

BABY'S TEETH. An acute illness will delay teetEng, but the chief cause of late dentition is rickets. The teeth should appear as follows: — About the seventh month the two middle teeth in the lower jaw. A few weeks later the two middle teeth in the upper jaw; these four being the central incisors. . . At eight months the lateral incisors, top and bottom. At twelve months the four back teeth or molars. At Bixteen months the four eye teeth. At twenty-four months the other four molars. A jaconet bib should be worn by the child, as the constant "dribbling that occurs is liable to set up a chill. If an ivory ring is given to the infant to bite, the ring must be cleansed with boiling water every day. ■ The child's fingers, which so frequently go to the mouth during teething, should be often washed during the 'day. THE BENEFICENCE OF ptAIN. Pain may be useful, though unpleasant. Pain is a danger signal informing the patient that somexhing is wrong. Never despise or nfeglect pain. In those diseases , where pain is not a strong feature the patient is in danger of neglecting his symptoms. For instance, in typhoid fever there is no pain in the early stages, and the subject of a commencing attack of typhoid may continue at work; if only he had a sharp pain he -would soon take to his bed and send for the doctor. Cancer is another complaint which is quite painless in its first stages. It is a cruel wile of the devil to prevent pain in cancer cases. H the first small tumour caused pain it would be Tecognised early; as it is we have to depend upon the accidental discovery of a lump by the patient himself; and wnen he has found it, he does not think it worth while to consult a doctor. The absence of pain deceives everybody; the common-sense person does not neglect the presence of pain when it doea come.
