COMPENSATION PAYMENTS. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The Slaughtering and inspection Amendment Bill, introduced by the Minister of Agriculture, maked some important amendments to the existing law with regard to the compensation payable for stock found, after slaughter, to be unfit for human consumption. It is provided that compensation shall not be payable unless the owner makes application to an inspector in the case <M[_»n abattoir or meat export si&ignlerßoase" within the first ten days of the month •following that in which the stock was slaughtered, and in all other cases within three days after the stock was. slaughtered. Iα no case is compensation to be paid unless the owner satisfies the inspector that-the stock was diseased and had been disposed of as required by the veterinarian. Compensation will not *be paid where the meat was rendered unfit for human consumption 'through defect or inferiority in its condition, or owing to a state of advanced pregnancy or of Tecent parturition of the animal. Power is given to the controlling authority of an abattoir to make by-laws prescribing charge, regulating the working and management and so on, but this •will not come into force until approved by the Governor. If default is made in the one payment of any charges the controlling authority may recover the amount 'by action at law. The bill further goes on to define a "meat export | slaughter-house" as a slaughterhouse wherein not less than twenty-five per centum of the stock slaughtered, is for I export beyond New Zealand.
