SINGULAR FATALITY.
DREDGE HAND DROWNED. (By Telegraph.—l-Tess Association.! DUNEDIN, , Tuesday. " A man named John Kelly was' lost from the -Earnscleugh Company's 330. 3 dredge near Alexandra South, and thb body was found tins morning. The only other dredge hand on 'the vessel, last night- was William Lairichbury,, and he ■was found huddled uj> on the diedge'a boat with every fingei" severed from hie right hand. He was completely .dazed and unable ito give any particulars of the accident.
The dredge is worked iby lelecjirieity, which is conveyed, on a cable from the shore to the dredge. It is-presumed that something went wrong with the cables, and the two men left the dredge in a boat to Tectify th.c power,.but forgot to cut off the current..or failed to use rubber, gloves provided for; thepurpose. - .. . l ._ '. ..'"._.,<.'■,'■ The deceased was a married man, and leaves five ciildTen. . .
