MEETING OF PORT ALBERT FRUITGROWERS.

The annual-meeting of-the Port Albert Fruitgrowers' Association was held on Monday. The meeting represented the principal fruitgrowers of the district. Mi. G. B. Reid was chairman. Mr. D. Becroft, secretary, Tead the minutes and correspondence. There was ■ considerable discußsion on several subjects, and motions passed with unanimity. Mr. •T. A. Shepherd, delegate representing Port Albert. at the Fruitgrowers' Conference *t Hastings, gave a lengthy report of the proceedings. On the motion of Messrs. £. Gubb and P. Becroft, Mr. Shepherd received a vote of thanks for hie services. A letter was received from the clerk of i the Rodney County Council, requesting the Fruitgrowers' Association's support iin the matter of Rodney being represented at the next -winter show of the Auckland. Provincial Agricultural Association. Several members favoured joining the Kaipaxa. Court, and objected to a large number of email districts being Tβpresented, and suggested that Warkworth should join in a Waitemata court, * Parliamentary electorate quite small enough. A resolution was passed unanimously to join in exhibiting, at Kaipara court. Useful discussion took place in the matter c-f orchard spraying, also the low price of fruit last season. Mr. F. A. Gubb briefly referred to his recent visit to England. He said New Zealand's exMbit at the Anglo-Japanese Exhibition at the White Cty was a credit to the Dominion. There could be a good trade done with England. Fruitgrowers ought not to expect the New Zealand Government to guarantee that a certain price was realised in England for their apples. Why should not the farmers get a Government guarantee as to price for the butter exported? Apples were selling at sd. and 6d. per lb. from May to the end of August in England. The election of officers of the Association for the ensuing year was postponed until next year.
