Dick and Qowden's, who is leaving for the South to enter -business, was presented with a handsome silver-mounted walking-stick by Mr. W. Beeby, on behalf of his fellow-workers, and with, a cheque on behalf of the firm. I Dr. F. The Rev. Fathers O'Connor, O'Sullivan, | O'Driscoll, and -COllender arrived from ; Australia by the Maheno yesterday oh a holiday visit to the Dominion, and the ! Rev. Father McDonnell, of Wellington, returned from a visit to Australia. The Rev. Professor Hewitson, of Knox College, Dunedin, arrived from the South by the Monowai;yesterday, and will fulfil several engagements in Auckland this week. On Saturday next he will lay the foundation stone of the new Orphans' Home at Remuertt. Among the arrivals by the Maheno yesterday who are staying at the Central Hotel are Mr. and Mrs. A. Bayley, of Sydney, Messrs. R. Massey, of Sydney, L. M. ahd H: P. Browne, C. Armstrong, and H. Burt, Of Sydney. Mr Arthur Griffith, Minister for Works in the McGowen Cabinet in New South Wales, is a nephew of the late Sir Hercules Robinson, at one time Governor of New Zealand, and was more than once the guest of his uncle at Government House in Wellington. Mr. Griffith was in his younger days a junior master in Christ's College, Sydney, but for some years past he has been a patent attorney in Sydney. Referring to the death of Mr. Frederick Smythe Willis, a well-known resident of Sydney and Killara, who died a week ago in a private hospital as the result of a tramcar accident at Grey Lynn on October 10, tbe "Sydney Morning Herald" of Wednesday last states that Mr. Willis, who had only arrived here on a visit to his sisters a few days before the accident, was a partner of the firm of Frederick S. Willis and Co., public accountants, Stock Exchange Buildings, Pitt-street. He was a prominent Freemason, being a Pastmaster of Lodge lonic, and a Pastmaster and one of the founders of Lodge He was an alderman of the Borough of Willoughby for six years from 1896 to 1902, and Occupied the Mayoral chair for the year 190 L He Was a keen sportsman, having been a prominent footballer and an enthusiastic member of,the Killara Golf Club. He was married to a daughter of Rev. Dr. Bruce, of Sydney, and has left a widow and one daughter.
