. At the meeting of the Harbour Board this afternoon, the secretary and treasurer (ilr. H. J-. Brigham) tendered his resignation owing- to failing health. He _ stated he would be shortly visiting- England, and would like to be relieved by 20th November. Mr. Ehtriean moved that the resignation should be accepted, and also moved ■that In vecogmiihn of-Mr.-Brighaaß'3- servotad twelve months' salary. He mentioned the fact that Mir. -Brijaani had never spared himself in his ■work for the Board. During his term of office the income of the Board had risen till it -would reach, next year, £ HO.OCOj ten times as much as when Mr. Brigham joined^ Mr. Xapier seconded the motion, and asked that as an addendum the Board's appreciation should ne—snitahly inscribed ' on Vellum and presented to Mr. Brigham. Other members speke in appreciative terms of Mr. Brigham's services. ... Mr. Brigham thanked the membera for their vfelt-wishes". "' Mr. Brigham, in his letter of resignation, stated that he had held the appointment" for over 3S years, and had, in addition to his secretarial duties, - administered ■ the income and and dealt with the proceeds of the various loans, amounting in the aggregate to over six million pounds.
