The 6.5. Xavua, sailing for the Cook and* Society Islands at S o'clock to-night, takes the following passengers:—Mesdames Engelke, Delporte, Messrs H. H. Hemue, H. C. Hayr, Delporte, W. H. -Grove, Waite, and 3p steerage. WHANGAREI LIGHTS. The Whangarei Harbour Boara has notified the Marine Department that on and after September 1, 1910, the fixed white lig-ht on beacon No. 2 of Single Tree Point will be dispensed with, and a white flashlight substituted.' Duration of light 1 second, obscured 10 seconds. The light "will he an acetone light, and should be visible, except when obecured by the land, for a distance of about seven miles. THE APARIMA. The Union Co.'s steamer Aparlma, bound from Calcutta, Singapore, and Samarang, to 'N*ew Zealand ports, passed Goode Island on the 22nd inst. Advice received from the company's head office states that the Apariina will atrive at Auckland about Saturday or Sunday next, from which it is inferred that the vessel Is coming along fi.t reduced speed. The Aparima has about 4000 tons of cargo to put out at Auckland. THE NEW ORIENT LINER. It is understood that the sixth Orient liner, now being constructed at Clydebank, will be named the Orient, thus perpetuating a designation which for. about 30 years has been well known to travellers between Great Britain and Australia. Tie Orient line's first Orient only passed out of active service last autumn, when she was sold to be broken up. Built in 1879 by Messrs. John Elder and Co., of Glasgow, this original Orient was an iron fourinaeted steamer of 5453 gross tons, with engines of 1215 nominal horse-power. The new Orient will be approximately as large as the biggest of the five 12,000-ton yes- . sels which within the past year or so have been placed In the company's Australian service. THE TALUNE.
