BOXING.
AUSTRALASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS. All preparations are well in hand by the local boxing association's secretary (Mr Trudgeon), and a successful championship carnival seems assured. The Australian team of boxers arrived in good health, and condition by the Sydney boat yesterday. In all nine competitors arrived, under the management of Messrs Captain V. Horniman (N.S.W.), and S. J. Hinchy (Q.). Mr Alex. A. Watson, hon. secretary Manly Tnrf Club, also accompanied the team. The southern divieion of the New Zealand representatives are expected to arrive by the Main Trunk express on Wednesday morning. Telegraphic advice received states that all the New Zealand champions selected, except Kerr, in the featherweight class, will make the journey, and compete at the carnival, among the number being Hagerty (Tlmaru), the present Australasian featherweight champion. The boxers at the forthcoming Australasian championships are considered to be equal in standard to any previous gatheriug. and from these meetings some of the most prominent lv the present professional ranks have graduated, viz.—Jim Grifiln, Billy Elliott, Dave Smith, ,T. Dowridge, Snowy Baker, and several others. Aucklauders will have, for the first time in the j history of amateur boxing, an opportunity : of seeing the best material in the Austral- i asiau amateur ranks competing. ! ■ I
