NORTHERN UNION GAME.
CITY ROVERS V. COMBINED CLUBS. City Rovers, the winners of this season's championship, played a fifteen picked from all the other clubs. There was a good attendance, some 300 . people being present. The game opened tamely, and then a fine forward rush by City enabled Denize to score. A. Asher made a poor attempt at goal. Combined rallied, but Henderson ran too far, and the next moment his side was placed on the defensive by Brockliss, but off-side play brought the red aud blacks up. Combined attacked, and Maiki broke through the defence, reaching near the goal, when he was grassed by Asher. Nolan raced for the corner, but failed to penetrate the defence, and City relieved A little while and combined were back again, and City forced. Combined kept up the attack, and Neighbour had an unsuccessful shot at goal. The spell ended a few minutes later without further score. On resuming, City attacked, and close Uninteresting play resulted in a force Nolan headed play to City's 25. Prom the scrum Neighbour picked up, and passed to Bennett, who scored near the posts. Neighbour converted. (Combined 5 points, City 3.) Another forward rush resulted in another score for Combined a few minntes later, Seager getting across. Neighbour failed at goal. (Combined S, City 3.) City rallied, and, from a forward rush, Hawthorn scored a try which was not converted. ' The game .then ended with the score Combined 8, City 6.
