PACIFIC CABLE.

BUSINESS GROWN ENORMOUSLY. VANCOUVER, July 1. The Pacific Cable is being used in an ever-increasing degree within the past three years, and is now fulfilling th« service between the chief portions of the Empire that was hoped" for at its inception.

' So great is the volume of business now offering between Australia and the old land that an independent land line across Canada has become an imperative necessity. Hitherto the cable company has had to transfer messages to the C.P-R. Telegraph Company for ■transmission over the Continent, but it is felt that this arrangement will not meet tne present and future needs of the service.

John Milward, Australian, manager of the Pacific Ca-ble, arrived 'on the Mararna, and goes through to Montreal, where he will meet A. S. Baxendole, London, chairman of tie Pacific Cable Board, and together they wiH discuss with the officials of the C.P.E. Telegrapn Company the leasing of a wire from Vancouver to Montreal. Later Mr. Milward and Mr. Baxendr.le will come to the coast and inspect the B.C. terminal station at Banneld.

Speaking to a "Times' , representative this morning. Mr. Milward stated that the business of -the Pacific Cable has grown enormously of late, and is bound to increase to a remarkable degree. This has made it necessary that the board secures a land link which will be under its control at all times. The securing of this will ateo give a gre=i Impetus to the Imperial press service.

As an instance of the efficiency of the Pacific CaWe. Mr. Milward mentioned that at the time of the King's death the London office filed a press story with the Commercial Cable anif Eastern Extension, and also with tie Pacific Gable.
