TRADES AND LABOUR CONFERENCE.
CONGRATULATIONS. At the Trades and laibour Conference to-day Mr. Carey, on behalf of the Wellington Council, moved a vote of congratulation to the Federal Labour Premier, Mr. Andrew Fisher, and this "was carried by acclamation. "SOCIALISATION." The agenda paper wae reached shortly after midday. The first recommendation considered was the following from Auckland, moved by Mr. Savage: "That rule 2 of the N.Z. Federation'of Labour be struck out, and the following inserted: 'The object shall be the Socialisation of the means of production, distribution and exchange.'" It was proposed that this should take the place of the following objects, which were passed at the last conference:—"(a) To secure by all just means the best possible advantage for all classes of labour throughout New Zealand; (b) to maintain a spirit of fraternal sympatic with the workers of all other countries." After a discussion on lines of a somewhat similar question yesterday, Mr. Noot raised the point that under rule 15 rules could only be amended, except at a Federal Council meeting and after certain preliminary steps had been taken. The chairman upheld this contention. (Proceeding.)
