ACCESSION OATH.
VHB PROPOSED MODIFICATION. CATHOLIC SATISFACTION. (Received 9.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. In blessing a new convent, Archbishop fjarr took the opportunity of expressing tie intense satisfaction of Catholics at the prospects of seeing removed from the British Constitution the iniquitous terms cf the Royal declaration. When the oath •jras framed to secure the Protestant succession to the Throne, it faithfully reflected the intolerance of the times, but (jme those days a much wider dominion V as governed by the King of England, and liberty of conscience was secured to all faiths excepting the Roman Catholic, tfhich was singled out for most opprobrious epithets at the most joyous occasion in the life of each Sovereign. Tie Premier, Mr. Murray, said the jgnnations in the Coronation Oath were most objectionable, not only to the millions of Catholics in the Empire, but to jnillions of people of other nations who V ere friendly to Britain, and to all rightthinking Christians any ordinary citizen vho used such words a-s contained in the affirmations to his fellow-citizens would he fiven in charge for endeavouring to provoke a breach of the peace. The King should not be compelled to set an example which hi 3 loyal subjects would be punished for following. THE EH—EN—— COEDIALE. KING &EOBGS'S MESSAGE. (Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 18. King George, through Lord Northampton, intimated that he would never forget the numerous proofs of friendship and affection his father had received from the French, for whom he had so much svmpaiiiy. He added that he nimself was animated by the same feelings, and it would he a keen satisfaction to him to see the entente cordiale continued and increased. President Fallieres replied that no effort would be spared to maintain and itreng—en the entente.
