A STRIKE AVERTED. I NO INCREASE TOR FIVE YEARS. LONDON, July 16. A conference between representatives of the Lancashire master cotton spinners and the operatives has resulted satisfactorily, and the threatened strike is averted. The conference agreed that the demands of the master cotton spinners for a five per cent reduction in wages be withdrawn, provided that reither side attempts to alter the present scale of wages during the next five years.
