MEETINGS.
SOCIAL AT BIRKBNHEAEL
The first of a series of •winter socials (for members and fciends In. connection , with Court Birkenhead Ancient Order of Foresters, was held in the Foresters' Hall, Birkenhead, last evening, the building being packed to its utmost capacity. The following items composed the programme, which was mnch appreciated by the large gathering, the applause being loud and prolonged, almost every item being encored. Miss Beatrice Osborne, F.S.-M., pianoforte solo; Mr. T. Griffiths, song, "Somewhere" ; Miss Osborne, mandolin solo; Sister Call, song, "A Little Child Snali Lead Them" ; Bro: W-. B. Maeduli, song, "The Duty of a Wife"; Mr. E. Skinner, mandolin solo; Miss Shirley and Master Shirley, pianoforte duet; Bro. Sam Paul, song, Tin afraid to come home in the dark"~ Mr. Rowe, recitation, "The Auctioneer"; Bro. A. Bancroft, song (hi character), "Brother Bill" ;~Mr. Rowe, song, -When Sweet Marie was Sweet Sixteen"; Miss Shirley, song, "Beloved is the Morn" ; Bro. Paul, song, "In Hags," and as an encore item, "A Little Booking Chair": Mrs Towns, song, "A Bunch of Shamrocks ; Mr. 1. Griffiths, son" ■'•Where the sunset turns the ocean olue" to gold " At the close of the musical programme light refreshments were handed around, after which the hall was cleared for dancing, Bro. T. Coward supplying the music Bro. Donnelly (Chief Eanger), on behalf of the Court, thaused all who had assisted with the programme.
TENNIS CLUB'S- "AT HOME." A highly enjoyable "At Home" was given Iby the Dcfminion-roaa Tennis Club last evening in St. Barnabas' Hall. Some eighty couples fully occupied the floor. An excellent dance programme was gone through, the music provided by Mr. A. Ma'-riase's band being all that could Save been desired. A choice supper was provided under the supervision of the ladies' committee, and those responsible •for the arrangements generally are to be heartily congratulated o* tne success achieved.
