There has been some anxiety at Onebunga for two days past concerning the disappearance of Miss Gwen Ferguson from her parents/ home, in Mount Smartroad. On Wednesday night .Miss FerguI son -went to bed at about 10 o'clock, hut I next morning she was not in the house. 'An alarm clock in her room had been (set for 12.30, and a note written by'her, | was found in the kitchen. This note l contained the news that she ; -would I [,return home at 5,30 yesterday morning; i i unless something happened. 'Her horse jwas in its usual place in a stable at 1 Onetuiiga, but there were no indications I that it had been recently ridden. In thai I same stable there -tfere found, however, j several garments which showed that I iEes Ferguson iniglit have been there. I l<-ears were entertained for her safety,; jand the police have been searching, but Iso far the only news of her is the rnbrning she disappeared she was'seen walking I towards her father's house. A possible | presumption is that she has gone across country to Papakura. She has hot yet rt turned home, and at the time of goin"bo press nothing more had been heard of her. Yesterday afternoon two men named, E. Thompson and A. Eysart, employed at the Waihi Company's Waikino battery, were badly burned about the face. When -they were opening a drum of sulphuric acid, the plug-suddenly shot out, followed by a quantity of the chemical. The men j were removed to tile Waihi Hospital, j but no very serious results are anticti pated. A telegram has been forwarded by Mt. Charles Bagley (chairman of the Mount Boskill Itoad Board) to Mr. j£ ;W- -Lang, against -the. attempt made to, deprive- the 'cQuuties .of Eden'ahd M&nukau Afrcmi having represent. tatives on the Auckland Harbour Board oh the plea thai the latter body was goiug to take over control of Manukau Harbour. out that the two counties had a'frontage to the Manukau Harbour, and also that there was nothing in the new bill about the Auckland Board taking over the oontroL Mr. Bagley asked Mr. Lang to ;join with Mr. J. Bollard, M.P., and see that the. interests of Onehunga, Eden,, and Manukau. are properly safeguarded. Messrs. A. J.
