NEWMARKET BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Xe.wma.rket Borough Council met last evening, lliere were present: Th e Mayor ,',, r ,*<. -Davis), Councillors W. Edaerley D. r \ Kl " s ' U - Wlt 'ler, W. Wnyman, J. McCo-11, A. seccomlie ana Whittomu Slum Areas.—The Hon. D. Buda<> (Minister of Internal Affairs) wrote acknowledging the receipt of a letter from the Council, requesting that steps should be taken to provide legislation to prevent the erection of email cottages on narrow allotments, where it was considered that these structures would tend to create slums, and stating that lie.would be pleased to make inquiries into the matter, and -would communicate with th e Council later Building Areas.—Messrs Hesketh and Richmond, solicitors, wrote in reply to the Council, stating that the power to make by-laws fixing the minimum area of building allotments (assuming that such power existed) was uot confined to road boards but extended to all local bodies, Including boroughs. Tramcar Service. —Complaint was male by Councillors that the Symonds-stn-et-Khylier Pass tram service was not l:eeplii<* up to time.
