SCHOOL SYLLABUS.
DEFECTS IN COUNTRX TRAINING. (By., α^elegraph.—Press Association.) , WEIZiTtfGTON, this day. To-day-the Farmers' Union Conference debated the following remit from Otago: "That -the Government 'be asked to consider the disadvantages '-which country school children axe under with the present syllabus of the Education Department, with a view to its amendment." Comment was made on the number of uncertificated (teachers in the Dominion, and the importance of having • proper medical examination of children was also stressed. One speaker stated that in ihia opinion the nasal twang in colonial children was largely due to throat trouble, brought on by adenoids and swollen tonsils. Country children were generally healthy, but in New Zealand one speaker stated there was a tremendous amount of throat trouble, due-probably to the extent of undrained land. The remit was adopted with the following addition: "That a strong protest be made against the injustice of the present system of compelling pupils in the sixth standard in country schools to attend various centres for examination, and that efforts be made to have children attending the schools medically examined." . . :
