The conference in connection with the saddlery dispute was continued this morning before the Conciliation. Commissioner and four delegates from each side. It is expected that the points in dispute wall be settled, or advanced as far as it ds possible by conference -this afternoon. the roadways in the Ponsonby ■district are in a treacherous condition, at the present time owing to the surface consisting of nothing else but yellow clay, -which has been reduced to an extremely soft and Iboggy character by recent rains. The inconvenience occasioned to vehicular traffic is considerable. This morning a fish dealer had an unpleasant experience along Vermont-street. Near the end of that thoroughfare a eteep dip has been, or is in course of being, filled in with clay, and over this the intrepid hawker ventured with horse and cart. The quadruped floundered through the mullock a few yards and stopped, when it sank down to "the knees, and the wheels of the cart disappeared to the axle. A friendly carter came to the rescue, but his turn-out also became a fixture in the' treacherous clay. A little later a powerful draught .hor3e was obtained, and the two vehicles were extricated from the awkward position in which they were landed.
