IS THE FASTING CURE INJURIOUS?

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Various correspondents in different publications are continually testifying to the beneficial result, of a lengthened fast, but what about the other side of the question? Is it beneficial to I everyone? 1 very much doubt it, and, personally, have gone to a little trouble to investigate the matter by careful inquiries from those who have tried it, and would warn the public to be on their guard against overdoing tho tiling. iOf course, a short fast of a few days I may not do any dai_age, but the writur of those lines has interviewed a person who went a matter of weeks, and with i what result? Well, it was nearly a case lof being accommodated with limited apartments in tho cemetery, and, instead of getting a benefit, the very reverse eventuated. Sucli results are common, and it is as well for the public to be warned. I gave it a short trial myself for indigestion—about five days—and felt none too brilliant, and at the end of the fifth day was trying- to remember who I was, and thought it best to break my fast and find out, and did so. On coming back on to food, I felt a decided benefit, but still it is unwise to go in for a long fast, unless under observation by a medical man. I hope these line_ will aid someone to act with dis- i cretion.—l am, etc., ARTHUR PICARD.
