» HON. GEORGE FOWLDS. The Hon. George Fowlds (Minister for Education), accompanied by his private secretary (Mr. Crowe), arrived from AVellington by the express yesterday morning, and was at the Government Buildings this afternoon for the transaction of public business. Mr. and Mrs. Fowlds will leave for Wellington by the express on Wednesday evening. In conversation with a representative of the Auckland "Star" this morning, Mr. Fowlds said he had come to Auckland to officially represent the Government on the occasion of the first visit to Auckland of his Excellency Lord Islington. It is Mr. Fowlds' intention to take the Governor' to a number of educational and other institutions tomorrow. In answer to a question regarding the educational endowment fronting Queen, Victoria, Elliott and Darby-streets, Mr. Fowlds remarked:—"Although this question has only just been raised by the Education Board in Auckland, I may say that I have had the matter in hand for the last couple of years. I can assure the people of Auckland that whatever is done by way of final disposal of that endowment, I shall certainly see that Auckland educational interests are properly conserved."
