BANKRUPTCY.
& meeting of the creditors of William -JiaLeish has been held at Cambridge. He a contractor, and "did a lot or work for the Borough Council and the various loeaT-bodies f but : he: has lately been , farming .up . Toatoaroalway. His statement showed a deficit of £242 but it is expected it will eventually prove to be a little larger. Both the "Loan' and Alereantile and Farmers' Auctioneering Companies "are: creditors of over £50" each, and the Cambridge Domain Board is a creditor for £29 for rent of paddocks. The merchants are represented by Messrs. G. E. Clark and Sons and Thos. Wells, their claims being £50 and £60 respectively. It appears that the cause of the bankruptcy was taking contracts too low. A meeting of creditors of George Perry was held before the deputy-official assignee at Ohakune yesterday. Debtor stated that he was a "village settler, and had effected improvement on his holding to the extent of about £300, including a shop and dwelling, etc. being under the impression that he would be able to raise a mortgage from the Government Advances to Settlers Department. This he had been unable to do, and this, together with a very severe accident, had forced him to file his schedule. Some., of the creditors spoke in strong terms of the manner in which the debtor had been treated by the Advances to Settlers Department. It was decided to endeavour to mortgage the property privately. It is understood that-the creditors are willing to have the bankruptcy annulled.
