The first business before the meeting was the consideration: of the ad> vlsability of raising- a loan for the purpose of making and metalling the roads under the jurisdiction of the Board. Considerable discussion, ensued as to the advisability or otherwise of adopting the proposal, and' the consensus of opinion amongst the members was that the time was premature for the raising of such loan, and that in the interests of the district it would be better to wait until sucll time as it was decided to apply for the formation- of the- Town Board into a borough, when a. portion of the district on, the west side of the Waiimto river would probably be included :in the scheme. Eventually, it was decided to allow the matter to stand'over until the nest regular meeting to allow the members to have time to consider ■ and '. formulate some scheme. The clerk (Mr. F. Harris) informed the meeting that he Bad just received from Mr. Wylie, M.1.E.E., electrical, engineer to the Auckland City Council,, who visited Huntly several weeks I since in con-: neetion with the proposed electric lighting of the township, a report on the scheme. It was decided to consider the report forthwith. The report provides lor a powerful plant of the most approved designs, and calculated to supply the wants of Huntly for some years to-come, the efficient light-, ingof the* main- street and-portions: of the side streets with 28 50-candle power,, and the lighting of private houses from Kimihiaroad to Callagßan's corner, a- distance of about two miles,- with, -further extensions, according to the amount of support given to the scheme. The estimated, cost of tie scheme, including preliminary expenses and cost of raising the necessary loan, Is £4000. It was decided to take the necessary steps to lay the scheme before tne ratepayers' at an. early date. • . ■•; Mr. James-.
