A DROWNING MYSTERY.
AN UNKNOWN MAN. On Sunday afternoon last the body of a middle-aged man was found on the rocks on the Northeote beach. A brown felt hat was found near the body, in which was the name "F. O. Gaillran," and. this was believed to be the deceased's name. An inquest was opened on Monday hist, and was adjourned tiH this afternoon, when it transpired that ■fche hat found had been lost by a lad belonging to the Boy Scouts, having been blown overboard from a Northeote ferry-boat. Dr. Moir, who made a post mortem examination on the body, said it was that of a well-built man of about 45 to 50 years of age. On the left forearm was found a tattooed star. The organs, with the exception of the lungs, which showed signs of pleuretic adhesions, were in good condition, and he considered the ibody had been in the water from three to six days. Sergeant Ramsay reported that every inquiry had been made, but there was no one reported to be missing, and although the body had been viewed by a great many, no one had been able to identify it. A verdict was returned that the deceased was found drowned, there being no evidence as to identity or to show how he came into the water.
