HTTHTLY. The usual weekly meeting of the Huntly Literary Debating Society was held on Friday evening. The subject for the evening was "A Lecture on Burns," by Mr Jas. Elliot. The quarterly meeting of the Independent Order of Bechabites, Eosebud Tent, Huntly, was held on Thursday evening. Correspondence was read from the Hamilton Tent, re the forming of a Waikato Hospital Fund, whereby members and families would receive free treatment in the Waikato District Hospital. The contributions would amount to 1/ per quarter, and would be confined to Rechabites only. It was decided to fall In with the suggestion, and that steps be taken, along with the sister Lodge in Hamilton, to combine for that purpose. A special meeting of the' Huntly Town Board was held on Thursday evening to confirm the new by-laws which were passed at a recent meeting. The by-laws, which come in force on July Ist, relate principally to the regulation of vehicular traffic

The butter manufactured by the Cambridge Co-operative Dairy Company during the month of May was 41,0081bs I and the payments to be made on account of It on the 20th Inst £1468 17/7. The Walpu Scottish Horse (or, as they are now known, the G Squadron of the 3rd Hegiment Auckland Mounted Bines) went Into camp on June 3, for the necessary week's annual practical training, under the command of Capt H. G. McMillan, who had associated Lieut G. K. McGregor, Lient A. Wilkinson, and JUeut A. P. McKay. This squadron is now up to full strength, viz., 84, the whole number being in camp. Dn■fortunately after the first day the weather •became very bad, which made it very uncomfortable for everyone concerned, but the men stuck to then: arduous duties, there not being one single case of sickness during the whole of the camp. .. On Thursday night a cantata, "Under the Palms," was rendered in the Presbyterian Church by the church choir, assisted by an efficient orchestra. Solos were rendered by Mrs Wilkinson, Miss Madge McJOeod, and Messrs Ingram and Chandler. Miss Ella McDonald presided at the organ, and Mr Miller •led the orchestra. Credit is due to Mr Ingram, the conductor, for the success achieved.

The first business meeting of the Waipu Congregational Church was held on Friday night, for the election of officers, which resulted as follows:—Deacons, Messrs P. Mc- 1 Kay, N. H. Campbell, K. K. McKay, L. Clow, M. McLean, and J.'taking; secretary, Mr J. Laking; treasurer, Mr N. H. Camptoell; Sunday-school teachers, Mrs McKay, seiu, and Mies A. Campbell; choirmaster, Mr J. Laklng; organists, Miss A. Campbell and Miss leaking. The Waipu Football Club -has played two cup matches—the first at Batley, and the second at Waipu. Both matches ended in a draw. An outside game with Mangapai waa won by the latter by 6 points to nil. The third match for the cup will be played next Saturday at Paparoa. Aibertland is now leading for the cup, with three wins to their credit The Hockey Club suffered a defeat in •their first match, played at Hakarau. The nest match will be played at Ruakaka on Saturday.
