The Chinese crew of the steamer Highland Monarch, loading at Philadelphia - for Auckland and other New Zealand ports, mutin'ed when, owing to the operation of the immigration laws, shore leave was refused them. They drew their knives and fought with the officers, who, after a short struggle, overpowered the men and kept them aboard. As the vessel was leaving port seven of the Chinese jumped overboard. Three were recaptured but the other four were drowned.
