The dangerous nature of the railway crossings in Newmarket was referred to at last night's meeting of the Borough Council. It was decided, on the motion of the Mayor (Mr. E. Davis) that a letter be sent to the Minister for Railways, pointing out the urgent necessity for the erection 8f an overhead bridge at Victoria-crescent, and Che widening of the present bridge in Parkroad, nl the first connection, it was stated that the Department would be held liable for compensation for accidents unless something was done to lessen the risk which people now ran owing to this level crossing not being attended to.
