There has been some speculation ol late as to the possibility of further appointments being-made to the Legislative Cc-tldclL. in view of the vacancies recently caused toy deaths. Since the Ward Administration came into office four seats have been rendered vacant by the decease of the Hons. H. Teldwiek, J, Holmes, F. Trask, and R. H. J. Reeves. In addition, by June 22nd, five seats will have expired by the efflturion of time, viz the Hons. W. Boehan, S. Thorne George T. X- Macdonald, H. T. Wißram, and Mafoirtu te Wherowhero. Three courses are open, to the Government— firstly to fill the vacancies, and make the Teappointments; secondly, not to fill the vacancies at all, and simply make the Teappointments; or, thirdly, to nrake no appointments at all. There B good authority for stating that in «n probability the eeeond course -will <be the one adopted-, the eeate rendered vacant by deaths -wfll not be -filled, but the five gentlemen going-out Iry effluxion of time will be reappoiated. About-fifty ladies-Tvere present at the office of the Auckland -centre of the St. John Ambulance Association last eveninn- when Dr. A. Challinor Purehas gave the initial lecture on first aid to the injured, and all were much pleased with the interesting manner in which the lecturer handled his subject.
