TERRIFIC CYCLONE.

MOZAMBIQUE DEVASTATED.

HUNDREDS OF LIVES LOST. LONDON, June 1. The city of Mozambique, an important seaport on the East Coast of Africa, has been destroyed by a cyclone of prodigious violence. The storm swept the whole coastline with tremendous force, leaving destruction and devastation in its wake. The city of Mozambique was exposed to the full fury of the cyclone. In a few minutes the whole place was a vast mass of ruins. It is estimated that the death-roll will eventually number many thousands of people. Many vessels were blown right out to sea, and the fate of several of these is uncertain. Other ships were torn from their moorings and heaped up on the rocks that abound in the channel. Most of these vessels were steamers employed in the coastal trade, and carrying large numbers of native passengers. It is believed that not fewer than 400 of these were drowned.
