SURVEYING THE FAROES.

A GERMAN SQUADRON. INHABITANTS ANXIOUS. (Received 11.40 a.m.) LONDON, June 7. A German squadron is extensively surveying the Faroe Islands, particularly IVestmanhaon. The survey has caused great anxiety •jtmong the inhabitants. The Faroe Islands, which belong to Denmark, lie between the Shetlands and Iceland, and would form a useful base for a descent upon Britain from the North, although their value is lessened by the fact that the currents running through the sounds are swift and dangerous, storms and whirlwinds are frequent, and the harbours and bays are rrot very secure. On the other hand, the anchorages are nearly always free of ice.
