RACING NEWS.

AUCKLAND TROTT_xG CLUB.

The prospects for good sport at the concluding day of the Auckland Trotting Club's Autumn Meeting are of the brightest, and, should the weather continue on Its best behaviour, the club may reasonably expect a successful termination to what has been up to the present a record meeting. The track is in perfect order, and there would seem .to be a prospect of Dan Patch beating Ms own Australian record of 2.10, and _uiiesing the club's prize of £150. It is very probable that he Is improving in form daily, having recovered from his few clays of enforced idleness on the trip across, aud that he will do better than he has yet done. It la worth remembering that he was timed to trot his first half-mile on Wednesday,in 1.4, and it is not unreasonable that, in improved form, he may go the rest of the distance at the same gait. No doubt a very large amount of interest will be taken by the spectators lv his attempt.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent) HASTINGS, Thursday. The weather was again dull for the concluding day of the _awke's Bay Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting, and the attendance ■was not as large as on the opening day.

Proceedings opened with the Ohlti Hurdles, for •which Winlmeni rwas made a very strong order, in a field of eight The favourite was practically In front all the way, winning yery easily at the finish from Pikopo, which just beat Millenniad for second honours. •

The Hon. J. D. Ormond's representative Idealism found most support for the Okawo. —«_ Ha—licap, for which the good field of fifteen saddled up. T_e start was a straggling one, Fort William getting out with a _—tak, followed by the favourite. The latter had charge at the distance, but failed to sustain the effort, and made a very feeble response when tackled by Am—to and Royal Marine, the former winning nicely toy a little better than a length.

The —to—. J. D. O—nond supplied the favourite again in the <Ua„ileal event, the Hawke's Bay Stakes, Formby 'being voted the best of things, but Boanerges also had a good following, with War Song most fancied of the others. Sea Eagle was fj—ckest to begin, and joined by War Song, the pair made the running along the back and across the top, just clear of Boanerges, while Formby was easily beaten, and was never with the field after the first couple of fnrlongs. At the disi__ce War Song and _ca Eagle were still in front, but Boanerges was palling double, and once Oiliyer let him go, lie simply played with the opposition, and won very easily. Bros—>wond, finishing f._t, gained second _o_o-rs from Sea Eagle, with War Song a head away, fourth. 'X—en followed Brmlrr—n and Co—ate——me, Formby being last but one. Tims, —23 1-5. Maori King was backed as if ii was all over in the Bonrke Memorial Stakes, but Sir T—__—m. Parable, and Sir A—trim also Iliad friends. The start was "not a good one. Glissade was first out, and getting a merry pace, piloted the field along for about a mile, with Parable and Sir A—trim as her nearest attendants. At the distance Sir Tristram l, Maori King, Sir ——.trim, and Merrivo—a were all pron_ _ent, and the first jru _ned, wearing down the opposition, won by a length and a half, with Sir Antrim and Maori King in the places, and Merrivo-— right up, fourth. Time, —9 1-5.

Ascalon was hot stuff in the Scurry Hack, with Multiple also well backed. The former got out with a break, but the latter was badly left At t_e distance A-calon looked to have the race in hand, but when tackled hy Contendent, dM not struggle on, and suffered defeat by the best pari of a I—tgth, Amaru being dose up, third, and Stourton tourth. Contendent naid an exceptionally long price for one of the Hon. Onnond's representative—.

•Punters got a nasty facer in the Ma_gatara B—rdles, for wWch 'the _roney was poured in on Cont—i—ince. The favonrite was not handled with too much judgment, his rider racing with everytoing that -mc along, and when tackled by Forest at the last fence, hadn't a stniggle left in him, and suffered defeat by a good length. Polyanth—3 was (_ird, just in front of Ecservoir. The brncketed pair, Lady B—ina and Directoire, were tbe favourite selection, in the Juvenile Handicap, but Humming Bird, Ngatlr—nni, and Gloss also found backers. Before the s_trt Gloss dislodged her rider, and g—Hoped a couple of furlongs 'before being caught. When the tapes lifted Longstep was badly left. Vibration and Directoire made the early running, the latter getting in front at the diet—nee, and •winning by a —ttle over a length. The judge placed Lady Reina second, but tne general impression was that both Gloss and Hum—ling Bird finished in .front of her.

Nyland -wound up favourite, in the Farewell Handicap. After Hermia, Ainballa, and D—_—ng had made the running to the _istanee, Nyland came through, and ea_i'y sett—og the leaders, "won cor—fort_bly. Hermia j—st beat Dazzling for second hi>nours.
