TUAKAU.
A meeting of the East Pukekohe vßoad Board was held dn the Tuaka-u Hall on Saturday to consider the re-forming of the main street: After a long discussion on ways and means it was decided that a section of the road in the township should be opened up, the crown of the road lowered and the whole width of the road remetaUed. The Roman Catholic picnic whs helil on Saturday last in a fine paddock lent by Mr. Madill. There was a large attendance, and sports, games, etc., filled In the afternoon. In the evening a social was held in the Tuakau Literary Hall, which was filled to tts utmost capacity. Songs were rendered by Mrs. G. Hunter, Miss Hunter, ■Mr. Stevens, and Mr. Liddle. The music Tor the dancing was provided by Mr. Tapper. A game of cricket played last week bei tween the Tnakau C.C. and a team from Messrs. Lapwood Bros.' mills ended in favour of the former by 50 Tuns on the first innings. Threshing and chaffing operations are in full swing in the district. The late rains have revived the grass nicely, and farmers report increased milk supplies.
