HOSPITAL DIET.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Having seen the letters in the "Star" about the hospital fare, I beg to state that I came ihere a stranger from Scotland the end of last year, having ■been ordered to a wanner climate. On landing I was taken seriously ill, and through the kindness of Dr. Bardic Neil (who has done so much or mc after the j surgeons of England and. Scotland could! do no more), I was sent to the hospital, where I remained until the -beginning of I this month. The remarks made by "ExPatient" about '"the cheeseparing policy of the commissariat," are some of the greatest untruths I have ever heard. 1 was often in the pantry and saw the food dealt out to each patient, and it wa3 given just as stated in your paper of lGth inst. by the Secretary. Most likely "Ex-Patient" or "Truth," as he calls himself, is.an old chronic stomach case, with, a false appetite, ■which double the allowance could not satisfy—or one who i takes this mean advantage to save conI tributing to the hospital. I was a collector for two of our Scottish hospitals, I and can honestly say that the diet in the Auckland Hospital is a most liberal one, and compares more than favourably with ours. And as to "the treatment of the nurses no words of mine can describe the attention, love, and devotion to the sick and suffering. I have never met a more nolble, self-denying class of women than the nurses of the Auckland Hospital, Let those who have eick and suffering ones in the hospital never regret having sent them there, or listen to any tales told 'by such as "Ex-Patient," but rather thank God that there is smih ■a splendid institution, such medical skill and such loving devoted nurses.—l am, i J. McLACELtASSr, •-'-■-— Scotland.
