Very good progress has been, made with the cleaning up of the No. 3 Irene level, the line being laid np to the face, and little more remains to be done to put tSiis in good working order. V.'AJHJ BEACII. (By TelesTuph.—Own Correspondent) WAIHJ, this day. During the hearijig of an application, at the Warden's Court for a reduction for the Waihi Beach Ox's three claims, itr Cuisley, mine manager, in hies evidence said that prune time ago they were Hooded out in the shaXt, which was down ;JS>ft. Previous to this they had driven and cut the reef till water r-ame in. Stronger pumping plant was theu obtained, when operations were again started. Water, however, came In too freely and a week ago it was found necessary to close np the dam, and he was now prospecting with an adit level in -which he could only employ sis men to advantage. He stated that the company had spent £4000 during the last nine months, aad had aliso iad large esp<inses in connection with carting fuel. In answer to the Warden, witness said that the idea of prospecting 'above the sea level was to decide whether it was worth while putting in larger pumping ■plant. It was his intention u> put men on one claim only (No. 1). and work three shifts. The Warden said he thought the company had earned protection, bnt he would prefer to grant reduction for No. 1 claim alone, and adjourn thf other two applications, so th.it protection conld be applied for. The Warden finally granted reflection to 6is men for six months, and adjourned the other applications till 15th. March. TREDE OF WAIHI. (By Telegraph.— Own Correspondent.) THAMES, this day. Itr G. Arnold's scheme to work the Tride of Waihi. Prince Extended, and Waihi Standnrd claims under one company, as one property, were explained by him in the Warden's Court to-day. During the hearing of the application far six months' protection for Waihi Standard, ilr Arnold said he was owner of the Prince Extended and Standard claims, and held an option av«r the ITlde of Wailii property, lie had entered into an agreement that these three claims should be floated into one. a preliminary company to be formed to develop and prove the claim by means of boring. It was proposed e> form a small company that would have an available capital of £3000 for boring. It wns now proposed to increase the capital to at least £6000 to develop the claim, putting down a full shaft, costing £5000, to a depth of 30f>ft. In terms of the option. £10n was due to the Pride Company, and he ho-ppd to complete this amount by the end of the present week.
