SUPREME COURT.

CRIMINAL SESSIONS. (Before Mr Justice Cooper.) REMANDED. William Shaw, who was found guilty on Saturday of violent assault with intent to rob, came up this morning for sentence. The prisoner handed up a written statement, and his Honor remanded him until Wednesday morning in order that inquiries might be made touching the truth thereof. A JUROR FINED. For non-appearance in rnswer to a summons to serve on the common jury, Henry Walter Gasc-ott, Avonhill, was lined 40/, unless sufficient cause b» shown. ALLEGED INDECENT ASSAULT. Joseph Waddell was indicted upon a charge that between December 11th and December 25th, at Woodhill, near Helensville, he did indecently assault a girl under the age of 16 years. The Hon. J. A. Tole, K.C., Crown Solicitor, prosecuted. The prisoner, who pleaded "Not guilty," was defended by Mr J. R. Lundon. After hearing the evidence of two witnesses, one being the girl, his Honor asked Mr. Tolo if he could carry the case any further. The evidence so far tendered was utterly unreliable, and no jury could possibly convict upon such evidence. Mr. Tole Said he could not carry the case any further. He agreed that it would be quite unsafe to convict upon the evidence, and asked his Honor to so direct the jury. His Honor directed the jury accordingly, and the jury returned a verdict of "not guilty." Tlie prisoner was then further indicted upon two charges that on December 21st and December 23rd he did unlawfully carnally know a girl under the age of ten years at Woodhill, near Helensville. The prisoner, who was defended by Mr. J. R. Lundon, pleaded "not guilty." (Proceeding.)
