MELANESIA'S NEEDS.

(To the Edltor.l Sir, —Will you kindly, as in former yeans, allow mc a little space in which to remind your numerous readers that it is now that I am collecting donations in money and in kind, with which to provide a few comforts for the brave men and women of these Islands, which cannot ibe supplied hy the Mission funds ■for reasons all too obvious? In the heat we are experiencing now, food of the best and freshest, with every convenience for keeping it so, is far from appetising, and we have shops every few yards where we can procure variety for every meal. How then fare those in the Islands near the equator, and sick men travelling on the "Southern Cross," whose scorching larders contain mostly tinned meats, biscuits, and rice? My desire is to ssupply these good people who never grumble, with a variety of biscuits, chocolate, soups, restorative jelly, plasmon cocoa, chutney, pickles, etc., as well as with sbandages, petroleum, jelly, etc., for surgical needs.
