MINING FATALITY.

IN STATE COAL MINE. (By Telegraph.—Press association.) GREYMOOTH, this day. George Strongman, residing in Ooibden, a married man was killed instantaneously by a fall of stone at midday at the No. 1 State mine.

Joseph Edwin Dalton, land agent, of Tauranga, has filed a petition in bankruptcy. The first meeting of creditors will be held at the Official Assignee's office, Auckland, on February 18, at 11 a.m. At about 12.30 this morning a young man, passing Messrs. Cousin and Atkins coaeb-building factory at Parnell, noticed a lurid glare in one of the rear windows of the building. He at once got the nearest telephone, and gave the alarm to the Central Fire Station. The brigade was on the spot with great promptitude, and the blaze, which was incipient only, was extinguished in a few minutes, having done very little damage. The frre originated behind the furnace, and had probably been smouldering for some time before it burst into flame. ,
