SHORTAGE OF COAL AT BROKEN HILL. (Received 10.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. Owing to the shortage of coal, the ore dressing mills of the Broken Hill Proprietary have been shut down, 000 men being thrown out of work. The northern owners have declined the men's request for a conference, and intimated that they had nothing further to add to their letter of November 12, in which they made it clear that they would not confer with the men till they returned to work.
