THE GOLDFIELDS.

I OLD HATJTLAKI RETURN , . £4300 FOR THE MONTH. The return from the Old Hauraki mine ■vras telegraphed early this morning, being posted on the Exchange shortly after 9.30 o'clock. The wire reads: "Banked 14360z of retorted gold from 8601b of specimen etone. 3lb of picked stone, and 22 tons of general dirt." This should be worth about £4308. In his weekly report Mr. Shepherd states that the connection between the rise and the winze is now largo enough to travel through. There is now no doubt that the reef risen upon is a new one, trending seaward, and, judging from the amount of water in the face of the 400 ft level, its lateral extension looks promising. The connection is being squared, and when that is completed, further, development work will be started at the 400 ft level. Rising on the reef in the footwall of the winze will also be continued. Good specimen stone is showing in the rise, and a further breaking down will take place early this week. The manager is endeavouring to locate this reef at the 300 ft level. Stoping is proceeding on the No. 9 reef, which continues to yield occasional pieces of picked stone.
