Mr. G. W. Murray, who is a candidate for the vacant seat on the Board of Education, will, if elected, prove a useful member. No man possesses a wider knowledge of the educational wants of town and country. As a pioneer settler and teacher in the North, he gained an intimate insight into the difficulties that beset the teacher in scattered districts. As an active member of the New Zealand Educational Institute, and former president, and as- headmaster of the Model Country School in connection with the Training College, he has also obtained a wide personal knowledge of city and rural school work. Having retired from active service, he has now time to devote to public life. The recent Educational Conference, held in Wellington, passed a very eulogistic resolution recognising the eminent services which Mr. Murray has rendered to national education in New Zealand. All dinner sets to-morrow at 33 1-3 per cent. D.S.C., ia liquidation.—(Ad.).
