WASHED OFF THE ROCKS.
SYDXEY, January 21.
In full view of his father, who waa strenuously trying to save him, Stephen Heffernan, 10, a miner, living at Helensiburgh, was drowned at Wottohmollah, aear Port Hacking, yesterday evening. The young man, with his father, William Heffernan, and John McAuiiss, were fishing off the rocks, when a huge wave •broke over them. Heffernan, senior, and McAuliss managed to cling to the rocks, but young Hc-ffernan was wn-shed into the sea. His father threw a fishing line to-him, and he caught at at,-but it snapped. Another stronger line was then thrown to him, and he had almost been towed to a place of safety when another breaker craehed over him, and the second line snapped. Heffernan then sank, and his body has not since been seen.
