DOMINION BOY SCOUTS.
A largely-attended meeting of ecout : masters was held in the V.M.C.A. Roams (District Commander Captain Plugge presiding) for the purpose of discussing a circular from the North Island Commander, Dr. jMakgill. The circular, -which was drawn up by the Wellington Board of Control, suggested that the movement be placed under the control of the Minister for Education. After considerable discussion, the meeting decided unanimously on the following propositions:—(l) That military drill and rifle shooting be added to the present scout work. (2) That all sooubmasters be required to pass an examination in scouting, and also in a course of military drill, such course of drill to be approved of by the Defence Department. (3) That those serving as scouts be not classed as junior or senior cadets, but in lieu of both. (4) That scouts be recognised by and come I'nder the control of the Defence Department. (5) That scoutmasters have a special course of drill prepared for them, and after passing this, in addition to their scouting tests, they hold rank with other military officers. (6) That the present organisation remain as at present, only to be under the control of the local defence authorities.
