SIR E. GREY ON THE LOEDS. (Received 8.5 a,m.) LONDON, January 5. Mr. Asquith, at Brighton, defended the equitable valuation of land and other features of the Budget. He reiterated the supremacy of the Commons over taxation and finance. Mr. Churchill, at Dundee, said that the quarrel between the democratic electorates and a one-sided wealthy Chamber had come at last, and the collision must involve a constitutional change. Sir Edward Grey, at Claton, said that even a Liberal Second Chamber, if based on hereditary right, would become increasingly conservative in the course of time. He added that the hereditary principle, to Liberals, is out of date. The Post Office, at the instance of Mr. Rowland Hunt, M.P., has issued a circular assuring old age pensioners ■of tbe security of their pensions.
