Our photographs show the immense works in connection with the storage of water in the Waitakcrei ranges f',r the supply of the city. The great basin at the head of the lower Waitakerei falls has been cleared of the dense bush and vegetation which covered it, and at the outlet is being gradually raised a great dam. 'This work has been going on for some four years, and when completed this immense open reservoir, which will supply the city by gravitation, will be capable of etoring 210,000.000 gallons of water. fThc contract price was £125,000, and before completion this will no doubt have been greatty exceeded. The wall of the impounding dam is now at a height of 35 feet above foundations, and is to be added to till the total height is 65 feet. The wall, which, to ensure greater strength, is curved upstream, is 36 feet -wide at the bottom, but will taper to 3 feet Gin at the top. 2. At work on the dam. 3. Many millions of gallons of water are already imprisoned, the water rising through the wet months as the great cement wall is added to.
