A wedding gift of £250,000 was given by Mr. James N. Jarvie, a banker, ot Montclair, New Jersey (U.S.A.), to his sister, Miss May Scott Jnxvie. Mr. Jarvie was married on August 28 to Miss Helen Newton, and departed immediately on a trip to Egypt, England, and Scotland. Tho princely gift with which tho wedding was commemorated was made to a sister who had devoted her life to superintending the bachelor home of the bridegroom.
