HIGH COMMISSIONER'S MARKET CABLEGRAM. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The High Commissioner's cable, dated October 6th. Is as follows:— Mutton.—The market is very quiet. Speculative buying has apparently ended, and buyers are not inclined to make forward purchases at present prices. Stocks on hand are light, and firmly held in few hands. Average prices are: Canterbury, 4 3-8 d; North Island, 4Jd. Mutton (has only reached present prices oa one occasion since February, 1907. Lamb.—The market Is quiet and dull of sale. Average prices are: Canterbury, 4Jd; North Island, 4Jd. Beef.—The murket is steady. Average prices ai-e: £\.Z. hindquarters, 3 3-8 d; fores, 3d. Butter.—The market Is firm for best quality, but the higtt price restricts demand. Buyers are holding back, expecting prices to go lower. The price to-day is: New Zealand, 117/ per cwt; Argentine. 116/; Australian, 115/; Danish, 127/; Siberian, 106/. Cheese.—The market is dull, with only small demand. The average price of finest N.Z. cheese is 56/. Hemp.—The market is quiet but steady. New Zenland good fair, on spot. £27 10/; fnir grade, on spot, £26 10/; fair current Manila, on spot, £26; January-March shipments of New Zealand good fair, £27; fair grade t £26; fair current Manila, £23 10/. Manila output, u3,00u bales. Cocksfoot Seed.—The market is firm, with light stocks on hand. The average price of bright, clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171bs per bushel, on spot, is 70/. Hops.—The market is firm, and prices continue to advance. Kauri Gum.—The market is flrm, -with more inquiry. The stock on hand is 362 tons. Ordinary to fair three-quarter scraped, 170/; fair half scraped, 105/; brown fair half to tihree-quarter scraped, 20/; brown pickings, common to good. 42/6; bush, fair to good pale and amber scraped, 150/. River Plate shipments of meat received during September were as follows:—At London, mutton 65.563 carcases, lamb 10,210 carcases; at Liverpool, 10S170 carcases mutton, 5039 lamb; Hull, 6030 mutton, 3000 lamb; Southampton, 7766 mutton, ISSO lamb; Cardiff. 5335 mutton, 500 lamb; Ireland 1500 mutton.
