POXSOXBT SWIMMING AXD LIFESAVI>"G CLUB. The first annual meeting of the Pon Eonby Swimming and Life-Saving Club was held at the Leys Institute last night. There was a good attendance of members. Mr. T. W. Leys occupied the chair. The annual report and balance-sheet vas read by the secretary, Mr. X. D. Culpsn. and recorded a very successful year, dosing with a credit balance ci £10 3/2, notwithstanding various extra exoenses connected with the formation of the" club. Luring the year the large sum of £33 18/1 was paid out for prizes, exclusive of the many trophies donated to the club, which roughly estimated as worth about £23. The donors were heartily thanked. The harbour race, for which the Mayor (ilr. A- M- Myers i had given a handsome Eilver cup, had proved one of the finest sights ever witnessed in Auckland Harbour. The race was witnessed by three or four TSnnsand spectators, and was followed by launches, yachts and boats of all descriptions. The competitors numbered twenty, tuny of whom were from sister clubs in Anckland. The dock carnival also proved * gr«it success. Reference was also made to the club's efforts to secure a good swimning bath for Ponsonby. The club had teen fortunate in securing affiliation witb tie Leys Institute. Thanks were given tr. Dr. Tracy Inglis for acting as hon. Eedk-al officer and for giving a, lecture on liff-saving. Bees, sen., and TF. Darby. GALA AT OHAKEI. At a meetine of the Auckland Rowing Aswiarion held at the Sports Club last light it was decided to hold a gala at Oratei on Saturday, 11th December next. Mr. A. Kohn has presented a special set w trophies in the shape of five diamond pins, one each for the winning crew. The function is to tnke the form of mixed "Trial Fonrs," similar to those held by the Association on a former occasion, which prayed such an unqualified success, the aembers of all the clubs competing for the trnpMps. it is anticipated that there will « from 250 to 3<iO oarsmen taking part in the trials.
