OBITUARY.
MR. J. M. McLAOTTTi.Vy. .-■ ; It is •with regret that to announe* the death of. Mr. J. M. MJcLaohlari, one of Auckland's oldest identities. He-had been in poor health for some eonsidefable time, and about two months ago underwent a somewhat serious opera* tion, from which he never seemed to rally. He passed away peacefully tbi» morning at Dr. Stopford's hydropathifl establishment in Khyber Pass-road. ■:■■■ The late Mr. McLaehlan was. a- wellr known figure in Auckland, he having iof . many years conducted a- most successful business in our city. His father, Tjflfhlan McLaehlan, was connected with one of our earliest banking institutions. Th« McLachlan family arrived in New Zβ*land in the ship "Brilliant, and for soma years past on the anniversary of the arrival of the early colonists —viz., tha 10th of. October—tie late Mr. McLachlan presented to the oldest survivor of those who arrived by the Brilliant the sum of £5. Mrs. Dan Cbyle, who was the continuous recipient of; this money, passed away early this year, and her son, Mr. J. Bain, who is in the- employ, of the Auckland Harbour Board, this yea* received the amount. Mr. McLachlan, ill as he -was. did not forget th e 10th of October, and requested that the amount should be paid to Mr. Bain, and, also expressed a desire that after &£ death the payments were to be continued. His funeral, a private one, wip leave his late residence, Crummer-road, on Monday at 2 p.m. for the Symonds* street Cemetery, where his remains wiE be placed beside those of his mother. He leaves a wife, one child, and t sister to moiirn his death. The lat« Mr. McLachlan, as one of the earliest colonists, took a great interest' in the. annual gathering of old colonists, and his adyice and assistance will be greatlj; missed by his old colleagues. ...,.•
