DETERMINING SEX.

GERMAN DOCTOR'S DISCOVERY OF "INFALLIBLE SYSTEM." In the "Beitraege zur Gebui tshllfe." published at Leipzig, Dr. A. Solioeuer gives details of a new infallible system by which the sex of iufants may be predicted before birth, nnd may even be determined at will of the parents. Dr. Sehoener's system has nothing in common with the renowned theory of Professor Sehenk, who declared that the feeding of the mother was the determining factor. According to the new theory, feeding has nothing to do with the matter, and the- male parent has as little. The sex of children, s:iys Dr. Schoener, Is determined before jferttlisfltlon, ami defends solely upon a regular organic lnw, in which the mother "lone is concerned. The germ-cell which develops Into the future child Is itself, according to the theory, either male or female. The possibility of determining which it is to be depends upon the fact that these male .and ■female germ-cells are produced alternatively at regulnrly recurring periods. It la not possible to Bay beforehand whnt will be the sex of a first child. But once such a child Is born, careful calculation will enable medical men to tell beforehand the sex of Its future brothers and sisters: and by observing the same rule people can have children of the ccx they de«ire.
