OBITUARY.
LONDON, October 16. The denth is announced of Lord Justice Fitzgibbon, Lord Justice of Appeal in Ireland, at the age of 72. Lord Justice (herald Fitzgibbon has hold the post of Lord Justice of Appeal in Ireland since 1878. He had a highly distinguished career at the English and Irit-h bar, and held the office of SolicitorGeneral for Ireland from 1877 to 187 S. lie was Commissioner of National Education. Ireland, from 18S4 to IS9G; Judicial Commissioner of Education Endowments, Ireland, from ISBS to 1597; chairman of Trinity College Dublin Estates Commission from 1904 to 1905, and Chancellor of the United Dioceses of 1896. He resided alternately at Dublin Dublin, Glendalough, and Kildare, in and llowth. JAJI HOFMETS. (Received 5.15 a.m.) LONDON, October 17. The death is announced of the Hon. Jan Hofmeyr. President of the Afrikander Bond, who expired suddenly from angina pectoris at Whitehall Court. He had just returned from Germany, where he underwent a cure. The body will be embalmed and conveyed to Cape Colony for interment. The Hon. Jan 11. Hofmeyr was 65 years of apre, and vas born in Capetown, where he was educated. He was formerly editor of the "Volksvriend," the "Zuid African" and the "Z.A. Tydschrift. " He represented Cape Colony, and proposed the scheme of Imperial Customs Federation at London. He was a member of the S.A. Customs Union Convention in IS9O. and was deputed by the Cane Government in 1899 to Blooinfontein and Pretoria to obtain franchise and other concessions in order to prevent hostilities between the S.A. republics and England, and was at the time of his death chairman of the Afrikander Bond and a member of the Cape Executive. >
